Thoughts From Dan

I had the incredible privilege of being brought up in a Christian home. My parents nurtured me in an environment where I got to see a godly marriage and experience what it really means to love one another through good times and bad.

We were at church every time the doors were open. My dad taught Sunday school to us scruffy-looking young men, and my mom taught girls' Sunday school and played the piano. I was witness to terrific models of love and grace by my parents' lives of integrity.

I still remember the feelings of guilt and conviction I would have when I disrespectfully called my dad an "old man" behind his back, or was indifferent towards my mom. I remember the shame I would feel because I mistreated my brother, Bubba, and my sister, Trudy. But that all changed when I chose Jesus as my Master, and committed to making Him Lord of my thoughts and actions.

I became a Christian when I was 11 years old, and I knew at that very moment that I was forgiven and that I was changed. My heart went from one of indifference to God, to one that wanted to know more about the Creator Who made me and loved me so.

You know, God wants us all to have an abundant life full of purpose and meaning. He wants us to be strong and courageous and to be bold in service to Him. He wants us to make good decisions so that we can leave a powerful legacy and lead others. That's the great gift my parents gave me, and it's the same gift I have tried to pass on to my own family over the years.

As with any area of our lives (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual), we achieve our best results through consistency. My spiritual life revolves around 4 major practices: Regular Worship; Regular Bible Study; Regular Prayer; and Regular Tithing.

I believe that we all have been created in God's image so that we might bring glory to Him and bring others to know and understand His love for us. To me, that means actively seeking His will and being diligent to His Word through regular worship and regular Bible study. I also think that God's desire is to have a loving relationship with each of us. He invites us to know Him better by having real, meaningful communication with Him through regular prayer. And finally, God instructs us to be good stewards of all He has entrusted to us, and to give back ten percent of our gross income to Him through the local church with a regular tithe.
