What's your balance?
People are sometimes surprised when I tell them I work in Customer Service. I guess with a title like “president,” there’s an expectation that I should be sitting at a desk, behind a closed door 100% of the time.
But that’s not me. Of course I have to spend time in an office. There are meetings to attend, obligations to keep and decisions to be made; but my favorite place to invest my time is in our Chick-fil-A restaurants: Meeting you. Interacting with our amazing Team Members. Refreshing beverages, taking orders to cars for guests, leading Backstage Tours, and learning more about the communities we have the privilege to work in six days a week.
I think it’s important to have balance, but it’s never going to be a 50-50 split when it comes to our gifts and abilities. For me, it’s more like 70-30.
We have to surround ourselves with talented people – people with our same goals and ambition, but whose strengths and areas of expertise differ from our own. I have an incredible team at our corporate headquarters that enables me and gives me the confidence I need to focus more on what I do best: Customer Service.
