Chick-fil-A Leadercast: Looking forward by looking back.

The 2012 Chick-fil-A Leadercast will take place on May 4, 2012. This year, we’ve got inspirational speakers, best-selling authors, professors, CEO’s, pastors… and even a football player joining us! Go to the Chick-fil-A Leadercast website to find out more.

Meanwhile, take a look back at some of my notes and favorite moments from last year's incredible event!

Seth Godin:

Corporations will either span the world and try to get some attention… or they will build an organization built on permission.

Are you in the story business, or are you in the “fact” business?

Either you defend the status quo, or you invent the future.

Interchangeable parts develop interchangeable people, and interchangeable people create average products for average people. If you want to create remarkable products, you must hire irreplaceable people.

We don’t need more compliance. We need better decisions.

Management is getting people to do what you already see. Leadership is giving people a platform and then getting out of the way.

We have to stop yelling at our audience, and earn the right to start whispering to them.

John Maxwell:

Leaders become great, not because of their power, but because of their ability to empower others.

No matter how talented you are, you’ll never reach your full potential if you’re out of position.

Too many people are like travel agents… sending people to places they haven’t even been themselves.

Managers try to solve problems, leaders try to create momentum.

Dave Ramsey:

I've worked by butt off for 15 years. Now, I'm an overnight success... Don't be in a hurry.

Leadership is service & a privilege. I'm not the boss of people, but a servant of people.

Read Proverbs. The book of Proverbs is a Masters degree in business and finance...

Have a generous heart in your organization, your team, your community and your customer. Leadership is service and a privilege.

When you play for something bigger than you, you will play harder.

Sir Ken Robinson:

If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.

As a culture, we stigmatize mistakes, but we forget that our mistakes lead us to success.

We do not grow into creativity… we get educated out of it. Most adults think that they are not creative. And yet all children think that they are.

We can't predict the future, but with creativity, we can anticipate it.

Suzy Welch:

Ask yourself when decision-making, "Where will this lead me in 10 min, 10 mos, & 10 yrs?” 10-10-10 is a decision-making process. It's about taking the decisions you have and thinking about their future impact.

None of us are the people we were, and none of us are the people we will become.

Your values are like your fingerprint. They are the legacy you want to leave.

What do you want people to say about you when you are not in the room?

Do you have a favorite quote or memory from last year? What's the quote from above that resonates most with you? Leave a comment below and let me know!
