"
Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
"
Matthew 6:33
I have been serving as President and Chief Operating Officer at Chick-fil-A since 2001, but I have been working full-time for this great company since 1970.
Truth is, my entire life has been spent around Chick-fil-A and watching my dad, S. Truett Cathy, build an organization that is as much about people as it is chicken.
Impacting the lives of others has always been a great passion for my dad, and he has graciously passed that on to me. Regardless of my title, I actually work in Customer Service - and with more than 1,500 Chick-fil-A restaurants led by more than 60,000 team members, operators and corporate staff, I've got a lot of customers to serve!
But believe it or not, Chick-fil-A does not define Dan Cathy. It's a huge part of my life, but there are a lot of other meaningful things that make up who I am and whom I feel called to be. I am also…
A husband. I have been married to my wife, Rhonda, for almost 40 years.
A dad. Rhonda and I have two terrific sons, Andrew and Ross (who are both working with us at Chick-fil-A).
A grandfather. I have the most beautiful granddaughter on the planet. Period.
A musician. I play the trumpet and almost became a professional musician before joining Chick-fil-A full-time.
A gardener. I am very involved in ground cover propagation; fruit and vegetable production; and landscape design.
An athlete. I was an accomplished wrestler in high school and college, and now I enjoy running marathons.
A biker. I have several motorcycles, and I even started my own motorcycle gang called the Moo Cow bikers out of South Georgia. You know, I think we all need more friends with tattoos, ponytails and earrings!
A pilot. I earned my private pilot's license while in college and now hold an Airline Transport Proficiency License (just in case something happens to the chicken business). I also have a type rating to fly a Citation I, II, Excel and Falcon 50 Jet.
A Sunday school teacher. I love to teach the application of scripture in real life situations to juniors and seniors in high school at New Hope Baptist Church.
A member. I serve on the board and am a member of some amazing organizations and institutions, including: Board of Trustees, Morehouse College; Board of Trustees, Berry College; Board of Councilors of The Carter Center; New Hope Baptist Church; Board of Advisors, Eagle Ranch; Director of Malizia Clinic (new urology clinic based in Atlanta).
There are a lot of other things that come together to make up Dan Cathy, but we'll get to those another time. Have a great day!
